The Wild Western Ghats
Journey Into Karnataka’s Untamed Wilderness

A safari isn’t just about spotting wildlife—it’s about immersing yourself in the soul of the jungle. I’m Amith Bangre, and the forests of Karnataka have been my home, my inspiration, and my greatest teacher.
The Western Ghats of Karnataka, a mountain range older than the Himalayas, is one of the world’s eight ‘hottest’ biodiversity hotspots. These ancient, mystical forests have evolved over millions of years, shaping a landscape unlike any other. This is a land where rivers carve their way through deep valleys, mist clings to emerald-green peaks, and wildlife thrives in its most primal form.
For me, this isn’t just another wild place—it’s where my journey began. At 16, I walked into Bhadra Tiger Reserve, spending days and nights in its dense forests, studying its elusive predators, tracking the silent movements of leopards, and listening to the untold stories of the jungle. I have spent years learning every ridge, every waterhole, every hidden trail of Bhadra and beyond. And now, I want to take you on a journey into the heart of this wild paradise.
With me, your experience isn’t just a safari—it’s an intimate exploration of Karnataka’s best-kept secrets. Whether it’s tracking a black panther through the rainforest, hearing the haunting call of a Malabar whistling thrush at dawn, or navigating through riverine forests where elephants roam free, every moment in these jungles is pure, unfiltered adventure.

Bhadra Tiger Reserve – The Land of Endless Green
Tucked away in the heart of Karnataka, Bhadra Tiger Reserve is a sanctuary of rolling hills, dense forests, and crystal-clear rivers. Home to Bengal tigers, elusive black panthers, Indian gaurs, sloth bears, and over 250 species of birds, Bhadra is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
This is the place where I began my wildlife journey at 16, walking its dense trails, understanding the rhythm of the jungle, and tracking its magnificent creatures. When you explore Bhadra with me, you don’t just visit—you experience it through the eyes of someone who knows every hidden corner of this wild expanse.

Kudremukh National Park – The Scotland of India
With its rolling grasslands, shola forests, and mist-covered peaks, Kudremukh is one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Western Ghats. The park is home to leopards, tigers, Malabar civets, and the rare lion-tailed macaque, found only in these forests.
If you seek raw, untouched wilderness, Kudremukh is a paradise waiting to be explored. Here, you can trek through the most scenic trails in Karnataka, cross gushing mountain streams, and witness wildlife in one of India’s most pristine ecosystems.
Sharavathi Valley – Where Rainforests Meet Waterfalls
Sharavathi Valley, often called Karnataka’s hidden rainforest, is a world of towering waterfalls, ancient forests, and rare wildlife. The Jog Falls, India’s second-highest plunge waterfall, crashes down from 830 feet, creating a spectacle of mist and thunder.
The forests here are alive with secrets—from silent big cats stalking the undergrowth to vibrant hornbills gliding across the canopy. It’s a land where nature remains untouched, wild, and free.

Anshi-Dandeli Tiger Reserve – The Realm of the Black Panther
Anshi-Dandeli is one of the few places in India where you have a real chance of spotting the legendary black panther. This dense, misty rainforest is also home to the Indian bison, wild elephants, and a dazzling variety of birds, including the Great Indian Hornbill and Malabar Pied Hornbill.
The Kali River, flowing through the reserve, offers a completely unique safari experience—witnessing crocodiles basking along the banks, spotting river otters, and even rafting through pristine jungle waters.
